Staying Positive

Things that have gone right lately. My attempt to be a more optimistic person.

I will post every day, at the end of the day (or the next morning), about the good things that have happened to me in that day. The hope is that I will begin to be generally happier and more positive, rather than focusing on the negative as I tend to do.

If you would like to join me, e-mail me or leave a comment on one of my posts and we can talk about adding you as a poster here. I think that it would be really cool if this were to become a multi-person endeavor, if others are interested in helping to make it one.

August 10, 2006

Music: Placebo Sleeping with Ghosts
Reading:
Dickens Bleak House
Current stress level (scale of 1-10): 5. Misery level: 8.5.

Good things that happened today:
1. Not so much "good" as "amusing," but hey, it made me smile, so I'll count it. So I was looking at Dashboard widgets for the Mac OS X, and I found one that was a "Positive Quote of the Day" widget. The quote in their example picture was, "But screw your courage to the sticking place, and we'll not fail." I was amused and wrote them the following e-mail:

I was looking at your "Positive Quote of the Day" widget for the Mac
Dashboard, and I just wanted to say that the quote that you have in your example
picture (Shakespeare, "But screw your courage to the sticking place, and we'll
not fail") is, I believe, from "Macbeth" -- Lady Macbeth speaking to her husband
about murdering Duncan. I might be wrong, but I'm a well-read English major, so
I think I'm right. ;) If I AM right, it's not really a very positive quote, and
kind of a silly thing to have for your example.

Their reply:

I believe you are correct and I believe you are, in fact, well read. I
also believe that my placement of that particular quote was intentional ;-)

Hee.

2. I think I did something right that I'd been trying to do at fencing tonight. :)
3. Enjoyable dinner tonight. Sat with some people I don't talk to frequently enough, and then a girl came and sat with us who I had a class with but haven't seen for months. I had initially wanted to go be antisocial and read on my own while eating, but I'm glad that I ate with people instead.

Other things to be happy about:
1. Tea.
2. Boyfriends -- specifically, mine. ;)
